Out of curiosity, do you know whether the radiation is primarily of infrared or visible wavelength?

Kim, from what I see in the article it is mostly infrared. They use this to see "through" the clouds of dust and other matter as that will block visible light.
Many observations are done in the infrared specturm just for the purpose of seeing stuff we could not see with our eyes. Overall it's pretty darn cool if you think about it.
