Do you think it is "right" or "justified" that the president of Toyota, Akio Toyoda, must testify before Congress? I do not know all the details, but to me this seems a bit absurd. I think Toyota was made aware of an issue. They acted on this issue by recalling their vehicles to fix the issue. To me they are acting as a responsible company by taking responsibility. They should not be reprimanded for being responsible. No wonder people are afraid to take responsibility. If you do the right thing you get bashed for it.

Anyone have more detail on why this congressional hearing is taking place? I need to spend some time looking into it. My gut says it is not fair.

This time I want to address this health care thing again from a different angle. I want ask you some questions.

1. What do YOU want to see in national health care?
2. From what you read and hear and research, how close does the bill presented by your representatives come to your expectations?
3. How much or your hard earned money do you thing should go to the government to pay for someone else health care?
4. Do you feel you would rather pay for health insurance yourself or pay the government for it?
5. Is universal health care beneficial to society, and if so, how would you do it so it was not run by corrupt politicians?
6. Do you think health care would be better or worse if the government is involved?

The questions keep coming. I am curious on this. I am torn with the thought of a society with healthy people and we "all get along" similar to a Star Trek fantasy, but in reality, as we all do not get along is it even possible for a system like this working? Anyways, I guess I better start working so I can pay for my medical whether it's private or not!

The rigor and the game plan prepared me for life in general. Of course if kids do not want to learn, then it is a waste of time. Once the urge or want is there, it is amazing what some children and teens can do. Money is not the driving factor to how well your child can learn. Parents and a good school plus commitment makes for some real learning and fun.

Business is business and the economy may force the use to "sell" the oil to China. So, instead of taking care of "her" people, us in the U.S., we take care of our welfare contingency with money from foreign parties.

Oh, how about them environmentalists lobbying to stop domestic drilling? What are they going to say? Oh, it's not our problem. I sense a large political hypocrisy around here.

How come I feel we are on the steep part of a slide? We were on top for so long, I guess the saying, "what goes up must come down" is true. The question is how hard is the landing? I think this will hurt if something is not done soon.

A very interesting perspective. I was talking with one of my vendors/friend about this very subject of schools and why so many of the students are foreign. We both agree that part of the issue is these students work and study hard to achieve while many within our country spend more time playing games or receiving a "free ride". These people do not have any incentive or drive to move ahead thinking they should be handed their education, and therefore their future jobs, on a silver platter.

I agree we need a reform, but I do not believe in a national health care system. England is a mess and we have had personal experience with Canada's mess. Someone we knew was stuck in the HALLWAY and needing oxygen was ignored for almost 2 days!

I say we fix our current problem by:

The title bothers me as I believe it is the schools that should demand more from the parents. Our society led us to both parents having to work. Our society set up this education disaster. Even though more parents are "volunteering", it is not the norm.

At the same time the schools, should be read "government", and UNIONS have created a situation where a parent who wishes to volunteer for a position vacated due to "cutbacks" is also turned away with the statement "that is a union position and you cannot have it."

I call BS on this. If a parent, my mom volunteered as a librarian in the past, has the time and wants to help out, gratis, then why not let them. You save money and you get a parent who wants to be involved.

I also believe that throwing money at the educational system will not help. The schools of today are advanced daycare centers. Parents drop their problem child off and they go work. Between the liberal stance "we cannot hurt a childs self-esteem" and the lack of discipline allowed schools are worthless.

1. Children who cannot pass should be held back to take the curriculum again. F self-esteem. It did not hurt me!
2. Kids that behave poorly or are down right evil must be punished. No more of the parents whining, "Johnny is a good kid and he would never do such and such." BULLSHIT. Smack the bastard. Detention. That's what I had to deal with and it was well worth that extra "think twice before doing it" mentality.

Here's one for you. Financial analysts de-rated the stock of a very sound financial company. Their reasoning: The company does not qualify for government aid.

How ABSURD! Aren't the companies that "qualify" for "bail-out" funds also the companies that are IN TROUBLE? Does not "bail-out" mean "Save Our Asses"?

I equate a company that does not need aid as a company that is strong and self-reliant. Solvent is also a term used for a "good" company.

Things like this piss me off. These analysts should be fired for such idiotic behavior. It makes you wonder why there are people pushing this financial crisis deeper into the hole. I really do not understand this bail out. It is our money. Anyone who pays taxes is putting up the money for this bail out. Do companies that pay CEO's billions of dollars worthy of our money?

Correct me if I am wrong. Where is this bail out money coming from? Where is it going? Accountability. There is this Sarbain-Oxley stuff for public companies. Most companies have audits done to protect their asses. What does the government have? Anyone auditing big government. Another reason to reduce the size of government.

I happen to live in a city ( I call it a big small town) that has/had a football team in the playoffs. It is quite amazing to me how far people go to "support" their team. I see it more as how silly band-wagoners are. Where were these people when the team was doing poorly? What makes this stuff the top news story of the night?

What irks me even more is how drunk and obnoxious these people get. An excuse to party and drink. Does anyone care about enjoying a good game for its entertainment value any longer or has the entertainment migrated from what occurs on the field to what occurs in the stands or even the neighbors house?

I must say it is quite amusing to see these poor folks when the loss occurs. I must be sick to take such pleasure in their "false" misery. I have been told I am "twisted".

You can call me whatever you want, but I think the media and the rest of the world has been too harsh on Israel. I could be wrong, but this last wave of conflict started with Hamas shooting rockets into Israel, right? So why the big deal the Israel retaliates and big?

Oh, they are killing civilians! Who cares! The damned Hamas are using residential, civilian, neighborhoods to shoot their missiles and store arms. Is the world that blind and sympathetic to Islamic nations today to avoid the truth?

Personally I am sick of all the idiots in the Middle East. For thousands of years these people, if you want to give them that honor, have been killing each other. No matter what we or anyone does, they will continue to kill each other. I say put a fence around the whole damned area and let them duke it out. Grow up people, this has gone too far.

I guess a few people have a say in what a grocery store sells. Do you hear people complaining at the big stores? Are people really that afraid? Of course this isn't as bad as the city in Florida that is attempting to ban ALL products from China. ABC News.

Have you really looked at the people that shop at stores like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods? Diet conscious, health conscious, and UGLY! Just goes to show that healthy does not always mean better! I digress.

Is it really that big of a deal? Is China really that "bad" or is it a perception that the media focuses on? We know about the Mattel thing. A couple of other things happen. Does it really mean that everything from this country is bad? I find it interesting to see how cultures collide like this. I also find it interesting the different standards placed on things in each culture/country. I am not overly concerned about products from China. I do believe the Chinese government is aware of the situation and will correct any issues with quality. On the other hand, I bet a study of quality of U.S. goods would show up some interesting results rivaling that of other countries. Let's start with the automobile! ;-)

In a way, as long as there are different cultures and different people, there will always be some sort of conflict. "Can't we all just get along?" This doesn't seem likely.

I really think people do not understand the importance of any election. Even if your person or proposition does not win, those votes against show the world that not everyone is happy. If the candidates who win are smart, they will look at those who did not vote for them and ask, "why?" Most have their own agenda, though. That is unfortunate.

Apparently Iowans are pretty dense. Would I, as a Democrat, vote for Obama? No. As a Republican for Huckabee? No. Actually, would I vote for Clinton? No. Iowans did! So much for this country if we go by CNN and MSNBC. Iowa makes or breaks the elections.

Right now I really do not have a "favorite" candidate, but if I had to choose today it would be Mitt Romney. That can change tomorrow, but at least this one has some brains and common sense. I would never vote for Hillary, Obama, McCain, or the rest as I believe they are all fake and bought their way to "power" very similar to how other "democracies" work around the world.

I'm glad that Hillary's "buy out" did not work. I'm talking about the bribes of providing child care and car service. Nice idea, but I consider it a bribe. I thought that stuff was illegal in campaigning.

I find it amazing how much emphasis politicians in a presidential race place on Iowa and New Hampshire for that matter. Why? Are there not bigger states to catch? One theory passed on to me is that the people of Iowa are so dense that the politicians use them to test which lies work the best, then they can fine tune them for the other less obtuse states. Now that is somewhat cruel to say of Iowans. I never visited Iowa. I cannot judge. I still must ask, "Why Iowa?"

Everyone blames the banks for making these loans that millions are now defaulting on. I am now going to take the banks' side just to stir it up a bit.

Joe Blow goes into a bank and gets a killer loan. "Hey, I got this great ARM for my house. 1% for 3 years. Wow!"

Blow: This mortgage blows, man. My payments just went through the roof! I'm paying, like, 8% now. I don't make enough to do it.

OK, folks. Who signed the loan? Who knew at the time of signing that when the ARM period expired that the payment would go up? In both cases Joe Blow. The bank did nothing to hide this fact. No lender is allowed to hide this fact. Joe Blow is just plain stupid and in a way greedy. I can see the desire to own a home. I am not going to run out and buy one knowing that I would not be able to make payments! That is called common sense. Because Blow wants all the toys, he lives outside his means. This is the American way. Inflation would not be so bad, the cost of living would be more stable, and life would be more realistic and balanced with the rest of the world if we crazy Americans would use our brains. Credit for this, credit for that. We live in debt. We do not live in reality. Everything must have a price. The lawyers make sure of that.

Get real. Life within your means. There is no need to keep up with the Jones's on your block because they will probably go bankrupt before you know it. Some people have money, some do not have as much. Live with it. Deal with it. Don't expect the government to take care of you. Only liberals think this way. Take responsibility and work for it yourself. Take care of yourself. Let the government take care of the scary folks trying to bomb the living shit out of us.

Football is almost over and baseball is around the bend. All we will hear is steroid use in baseball for the next 4 months. Why the big deal over baseball players using steroids? Do the fans really care or is it for those who love to keep statistics?

I think that the only people who really care are purists and stats keepers. Purists who want the game to be the same as it was in the early 1900's. Statisticians care because it screws up the trend like that really smart guy in class. All these people want is to compare today's players with those of yester-year. Times change. People change. Health change. How we live today is far different from when it was 50 or even 100 years ago and that, itself, makes for unrealistic comparisons.

Why not let these idiots use steroids? They want to kill themselves or came themselves with these drugs so let them. For the fan who wants to watch the game maybe there will be more home runs. Maybe there will be that spectacular leaping catch that some nature boy could not perform. It's entertainment. It is human nature to want to see the biggest and the best. For someone who aspires to be the biggest and the best maybe a little help is necessary. Maybe that child who just wants to have fun in little league is being pushed by his asshole father into being bigger and better. That stress alone makes these kids start to think about these things.

I say let them use steroids. Let them slowly mess with their bodies. It's worth it to me to watch some jerk crash into the outfield wall and his arm pops off because of some steroid side effect. Which leads to the next question, will there be an uproar when the first physically disabled ball player comes out and has a prothetic arm that rivals the $6 Million Man? How many asterisks after that record? Oh, the scenarios abound!

After reading this article the more I feel that we should carpet bomb the whole area and let nature take its course thereafter. Or, we pull out and put a fence around the whole area and let the "tribes" do themselves in.

I don't think the latter would work as some stupid country would support one side or the other. (If only there were sides!) The UN would have to police the rest of the world to stay out of that area until the victor is chosen.

Carpet bombing with nukes, making glass our of the whole area, would be a quick end to the mess. Unfortunately it would cause a new mess.

Do you know how to listen? Did you ever learn? Depending on your age you learned and dealt with the "listening" test. I bet the younger you are the better chance you have never been given a test that actually tested your ability to listen and follow instructions.

The test is really quite simple and I believe it was around 6th or 7th grade when a teacher sprung it on us. Only 2 people passed the test. If you remember this test feel free to post a yea or nay.

The basic premise is the teacher gives you the instructions to said test verbally. Then you take the test. In both cases there is the verbal instruction to read the entire test and written instructions telling you the same. As in many cases people chose not to read the instructions and begin answering questions. It is when the collective non-listening, non-instruction following mass sighs. The last question is the instruction not to do anything. 33 out of 35 kids just failed the test. Yes, I was among them. It was a well taught lesson. There should be more.

Listen and learn.

So I'm doing my daily browse of RSS feeds and hit on the F-Secure one. Again, as many times in the past, I see warnings and analysis of the number of spam attacks. As I read the articles there is only one thought that comes to mind:

I cannot believe the number of people that will open up and email that says something about receiving an ecard from an UNKNOWN individual! Then they proceed to click on the link within the email asking to download something first! Then they actually install said download! Check out the blog entry here.

One would think that if people would become less idiotic that maybe spam would decrease. No, it's the opposite. I think people are that hard up to "meet" new people and receive new things that it will only get worse.

If you ever wish to visit La Mesa in California watch where you walk. I was out there walking when I witnessed 2 Hispanics pissing outside a liquor store! URINATING on the sidewalk! No, these were not your illegal immigrants, these were college looking types that obviously were out partying and needed to restock. Instead of making a pit stop prior to heading out, they waited until they were at the store!

This seems to be a common theme in San Diego communities since I moved out here years ago. Apparently the people who live here do not seem to care about the city, the people who are elected to run the city do not care about the city, and those who go to school here definitely do not care about the city. Drinking seems to be the thing to do in S.D.

I hope the city of La Mesa, a burb of San Diego, is proud of the people who live and visit their community.

I am having an issue trying to understand this whole illegal immigration thing. This new "amnesty" bill seems to miss the point. Here's my question: Isn't it the businesses/company's that hire illegal immigrants the ones that have caused this fiasco in the first place? The way I see it is if we let all these folks become "legal", those who hired them in the first place will now let them go as they will have to pay the minimum wages, the taxes, the insurance, etc. to hire these people. They will pursue hiring "new" illegal immigrants, thus starting a new influx of illegal migrants to the states. At this point we will be so saturated with these people that we may as well become part of Mexico or we should annex Mexico and make it part of these United States. Both scenarios we are not ready for as a country, by the way.

This also begs the question: How many of the current illegal immigrants will pursue becoming legal immigrants? Not many in my opinion. I think Mexico's plan is to drive their people up here to make money which they send back to Mexico. This makes money for Mexico. We get the labor and lose money from the States.

The other question I have: How many other types of "illegals" will attempt to become "legals"? I'm talking those with terrorist tendencies. Probably over thinking this, but it bothers me.

Mr. Kennedy, do we really need to "help" these poor people or are these poor people being used by their own government to help themselves?

Help me understand, people! I appreciate it.

I read this and thought that there are some good points. One question that I do have is, "Why do the left winged talk shows not make it? Why do the left fear current broadcast shows?"

I think the issue is ownership. Since many broadcast companies are owned by the "public" through common stock that these companies will only air shows that make money. We are a capitalistic society. Why do these stations make money on these shows? People listen to them. The ratings for a liberal talk show host seem to always trail a conservative talk show host. Why is that? People do not want to listen to these people. Don't ask me why they don't, just accept that they don't.

Now there is a push to reel in broadcasters and have more government regulation, a theme that liberals are quite familiar with. If people will not conform to our wishes, then we will make laws and make the government force people to our will. Sounds like socialism and fascism to me. I found this article talking about the new push to revive "fairness": Fairness Doctrine Revisited.

So do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing? I'm curious. My feelings are if you do not like what is on the air, turn it off or change the channel. That is called freedom of choice.

Interesting article in Reuters today (HERE).

This brings up a very interesting question: If an immigrant moves from their country to another country, must the new country recognize the immigrants' culture and incorporate their culture into the new country's, or must the immigrant conform to the laws and culture of the new country?

A second question: Is there a happy median where the two cultures adapt a bit of each, thus enhancing the so-called quality of life?

As for a culture that permits killing others, I would have to say NO, the immigrant must conform to the laws and culture of the new country. As for other cultural differences, there is no reason why the two cannot intermingle. This is where the conflicts occur with fundamentalists. Personally if there is a law prohibiting carrying weapons in place, the immigrant should conform. Ceremonial daggers should be kept in the home not in schools. Also, I find it sad a gym had to install frosted glass because some find the sight of adults exercising offensive. Close your drapes or blinds if you don't want to see this happening!

No wonder people in this world will continuously be at war. We will never learn to live together.

Cell phones that do everything

How many out there really want a phone that does everything: play music, watch TV, record conversations, keeps contacts, is a walkie-talkie, takes pictures, shoots movies...? You get the picture.

Do you want your phone to do everything or do you just want to make calls to your little friends?

My phone for work is an electronic leash. At the same time it gives me the flexibility to not have to be in the office all day. I have a Treo 650. Nice phone. Bulky, though. It syncs with everything and then some. With the right apps I can keep current documents as I go or even VPN into the network (though I have not done that as of yet). Do I really need it? No. Do I want it? No. But then again, on the geek side, the answer is yes. Too bad it isn't a bit easier to carry. Maybe someone will come up with a shoulder holster or something better than a belt clip that makes it look like you have a tumor under your shirt.

I actually had to reject a comment today. It was posted under a topic that the comment had no bearing on. It was a short comment that had no real subject. I think it was a kid that thought he/she or it was funny.

I am an advocate of free speach, but it must be on topic and somewhat intelligent. I say "somewhat" because I know that is all I am. In most cases I am just stating my opinion and how I view the story or situation. It may not be based on research, it may only be gut feelings on how something was written. Other times I may post on what I see.

I wonder if people really care about what is going on in this world or if they just think posting absurd comments is more important.

On the other hand, it just doesn't matter.

Don't get me started, again, on education. In my opinion, children do not have more homework than I did, parents do not seem to be interested in their children's work, and the schools do not have teachers that assign work in a "mindful" way.

There are good points in the article. One teacher mentions that his kids do not have access to the internet from home so he makes time for research at school. Also, the kids concentrate better at school than at home. I know for some, I was one of them, I could not concentrate while others were around, I preferred a quite area without distractions. Teachers need to be aware of how a child responds to the environment. Parents need to learn that too.

Assigning homework is important. Being mindful of what to assign and home much makes a big difference. Some of the homework is practice. Math is that way. Much of the homework as the child grows up is a combination of the practice and research. The research and learning how to find information is very important.

I liked that survey result about affluent parents not spending time with their children on homework. I figure this is because they always had things done for them, so why should they help with their children. I can only think of Columbine when I read that. There was very little parent interaction in that child's home and looked how that turned out.

Homework is good for children. They need to have homework. The balance must be right, though. I child needs to be a child and have time for play. This does not mean sitting in front of a television set or a computer, either. We are talking interaction with friends and family.

Drivers: A Bitch Session

Asshole with Texas plates. This person decides that it is easier/better to get in front of me on the freeway rather than fall behind me. First, I was at least 3/4 or a car length in front in the number 4 lane, he was in the #3 lane. NO ONE was behind me and I was 1 car length behind the vehicle in front of me. Said A-hole wants to get over 2 lanes, so he speeds up and forces his way in front of me then merges in front of another car in the 5th lane causing that car to suddenly break. I guess Texas spawns some real winners, eh?

The second is the stop sign running bitch. I come to a stop at a 4-way. The car to my left was already there, thus having the right of way. That car proceeds. I then proceed, but what to my amazement, the car behind the first car rolls right on through and never fully stopped at the stop sign. Oh, how tempting it is to just ram a person like that. I really think this arrogant bitch believes the laws are not meant for her.

Intelligent Design

Does this subject confuse you? Well, maybe this won't help more.

Has anyone thought that maybe the Big Bang was caused by an intelligent being, entity, omniscient thing? If one thinks this way, could the Big Bang be called Intelligent Design? Maybe our universe is just a result of some larger universe and some kid in that universe spit up some bad grub and we are the biological, bacterialogical stuff that is mixed with that spitum.

You all do realize that everything is theory and there are no concrete, set in stone, facts, right? Evolution is a theory. I would say God is a theory. Intelligent Design is a theory. The only reason some theories make it is there is evidence that support it.

The bottom line is WE DO NOT KNOW! We will not know until we die. Even then, we may not even know. For all we know death here is birth in another universe. Maybe reincarnation is correct and we come back as some other thing. I guess we just don't like not knowing.

I recently enabled comment moderation. Now the comments are practically nil. I guess that is due to the poor blog entries I have been entering in the last few weeks. I'll tell you. It is too easy to make fun of the news. Reporters just do not do their jobs well.

It was not a blow-out as I thought, but Texas did win. I did not watch any of the game except to check the score, and that was BEFORE halftime. There was something about the Spoiled Children that did not feel right to me. It's a shame, though.

I find it amazing how the media is such in a hurry to break the story that they do not confirm the facts. Yes, the situation was tense and humans tend to over react in such tense, emotional situations.

When will we be able to believe what we read or hear? I guess this is the skeptic in me.

I feel real bad for those who lost one in that "accident". Now let's see what lawsuits are filed! Let the games begin!

Women should have the freedom to choose! This is what freedom is all about.

Abortion should stay legal.

Abortion should not be used as an after-thought contraceptive.

Either I am falling behind and no one has any stupid comments to my stupid posts or the holiday season is here and everyone is preoccupied with being jolly, shopping, or depressed. So, what do you think of Sony now? How do you feel knowing that a company will install DRM and rootkit software on your computer without your knowledge?

Sounds like we really do have to worry about big brother. Think twice before sticking that CD in your computer!

It is very apparent that many out there do not like this blog. Tough shit. We all have random thoughts and blogging is one way to express them. We are all entitled to our opinions. I find it quite amusing to hear from those who do not like this blog since they seem to visit quite often. What up with that?

On that note, I will continue to blog. Though the frequency of new postings has dropped, I have not abandoned blogging nor the site of Idiot.com. And, if you have not visited the site, did you know there is no difference between a Typhoon and a Hurricane? Wacky, isn't it?
